Canada Removes Visa Requirement for Qatari Travelers

Canada Lifts Visa Requirement for Qatari Citizens: A New Chapter in Bilateral Relations

In a significant move to bolster international relations and streamline travel, Canada has lifted the visa requirement for citizens of Qatar. Announced by the Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, this change took effect on November 25, 2025, at 5:30 a.m. EST. The decision marks a pivotal step in enhancing the ease of travel for Qatari nationals, promoting both business and leisure visits to Canada.

The introduction of visa-free travel for Qatari citizens is a testament to the strong bilateral cooperation between the two nations. It aims to foster growth in tourism, business, and investment sectors, all while upholding Canada’s focus on managed migration and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens. This policy shift also highlights the increasing cultural and commercial ties binding Canada and Qatar.

For Qatari citizens holding a valid temporary resident visa, the existing permit remains effective until its expiry or the expiration of their passport. Meanwhile, those without a valid visa will need to secure an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) for air travel to Canada. Detailed guidance on eligibility and the application process for an eTA is available on canada.ca/eTA.

This development not only simplifies travel procedures but also signals a deeper commitment to nurturing a dynamic partnership with Qatar. As Canada continues to adapt its immigration policies to reflect changing global dynamics, such initiatives are crucial in fostering international goodwill and mutual economic growth. The visa waiver represents a win-win scenario, facilitating greater people-to-people connections and encouraging robust commercial exchanges, ultimately benefiting both nations.
