Alberta Invests $13.5 Million in Ethnocultural and Anti-Racism Grants

Alberta has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable society by reopening its Ethnocultural and Anti-Racism Grants. With a robust investment of $13.5 million over three years, these programs support community-driven projects that celebrate diversity, promote cultural understanding, and combat racism.

The Ethnocultural Grant Program is dedicated to fostering connections among Albertans through shared cultural experiences. It provides up to $50,000 for initiatives that bridge ethnocultural and Indigenous groups, and up to $15,000 for events that enhance cross-cultural dialogue. An example of the program’s impact is the Philippine Arts Council Alberta’s exhibit, “Contemplating the Tapestry of Filipino-Canadian Connections,” which highlighted shared narratives and strengthened community bonds.

Meanwhile, the Anti-Racism Grant Program aims to dismantle prejudice and promote equality. With funding up to $10,000 for educational projects and $5,000 for local awareness initiatives, it empowers organizations to undertake practical measures against discrimination. For instance, Cycle of Trust utilized these grants to facilitate community workshops and educational campaigns that have made tangible differences in understanding and addressing racism.

Applications for these grants are open until December 19, 2025, with information sessions scheduled for October. Eligible applicants include non-profits, multicultural and faith-based groups, First Nations and Métis Settlements, and educational institutions.

This continued investment underscores Alberta’s dedication to creating a society where every individual, regardless of their background, can thrive. By supporting nearly 200 organizations in 2024-25 and 230 in 2023-24, Alberta is not only advancing diversity but also building stronger, more resilient communities. This approach not only celebrates the province’s multicultural fabric but also actively works to ensure that equality and respect are foundational elements of its societal structure.
